Why is New Age music left out as a category on music sites?
If New Age sells as much as jazz (or more), and if we all own a bit of it (who doesn't have an Enya or Vangelis CD?!), then why is it so often ignored? Is it just prejudice?
Actually, I'd speak of crossover music raher than new age, because Enya's music is not genuine new age music and does not refer to any sort of cult whatsoever. Crossover is the better term because it combines more than one musical style together, and that's what Enya's music does. People DO buy e.g. Enya's music a lot (she has sold over 80 million albums so far!), but as she doesn't give live concerts, she is often overlooked. It's indeed just prejudice, because far too many think that the music sounds all the same although it does NOT!
